Gloucester Club National
On Sunday 28th June, when most of the country was preparing to enjoy a glorious summer’s day and light their barbecues, 12 of our young racers ventured west to the Gloucester Ski Centre to compete in the Gloucester Club National.
Unfortunately only 11 of the 12 took to the slope – as before he entered the start gate for his first run, in applying the last minute teching to his skis, Thomas Grant decided to polish his skis with his sleeve and in doing so cut his forearm and spent the day in A&E – returning at prize-giving complete with 7 stitches!
In the Males race, Josh Penning-Lambert and Richard Warmington drew in equal 6th place in CH1, with Alex White 11th, and Connor Schofield 19th in a field of 24 racers. In CH2, Matthew Penning-Lambert came 9th and Tom Henderson 11th. Nick Warmington skied consistently across all 3 runs and was 11th in the Masters competition.
So as the Spice Girls said – it was down to ‘girl power ‘to secure the podium finishes for the club on Sunday – with Yasmin Cooper improving in each run to secure 2nd place in CH1; Morgan Rota was 4th and Anna Henderson 6th.
In the Mini’s competition, Georgia Keys skied confidently to secure her second CN win of the dry slope race season. After the first run, Georgia was in fourth place but kept her cool in 24 degree heat, and went into the final run in third place – however with a fantastic start and determination to master the 14 gate course, Georgia crossed the line in 1st place.
