This competition is a challenge to Schools in Britain* to compete for the “Equity Champion School Cup”. Juniors, Children and Minis can take part, and the points system ensures that they all compete against each other. The races are open to individual entrants and are run under British competition rules in order to qualify for British Alpine Seeding System (BASS) national seedpoints.
HSRC club members are competing representing their various schools.
Day 1, Monday 9 March 2015
U14 BASS Giant Slalom, HSRC had no girl competitors taking part although Marie Curtis acted as a forerunner. In the boys event the 1st course was set by Scott Bryson, he set 34 gates with 32 turns. On a warm sunny day, temperature +3, new member Barnaby LEE, representing The Hall finished 10th, very closely followed by Charlie HUMPHREYS in 11th. Our only other member, Dominic BARTON, finished in 15th position. Justin Reid dnf Run 2.
U16/U18/U21 Slalom, Dave Tee and Rusian Natchkov set the course with 49 gates and 47 turns, Yasmin Cooper acted as forerunner. The awards were presented for the combined times of both runs. Alice McLEISH finished both runs in 12th position. The boys courses were set by Ali Morton and Justin Mesuit, 46/44 and 48/46 gates respectively. Brother of Alice, James McLEISH finished 24th, Richard TREW was27th. Morgan Davies and Ed Clarke dnf Run 2.
U12/U10 Giant Slalom, In the U12 girls, Emily McLEISH finished 18th, the U12 boys saw Max FAIRFUL finish 21st.
Day 2, Tuesday 10 March 2015
U10/12 Stubby Slalom, the stubby slalom took place on the Col de Voza race piste, the weather was sunny and the temperature very mild. During the race the snow began to soften. The awards were made on the best of 2 runs. The club had no entries in the U10 Girls or Boys event. In the U12 girls Emily McLEISH representing The Hall finished 8th, 4.50s behind the fastest entrant. In the U12 boys, Max Fairful again representing The Hall finished 10th. The only other member was George CASE, a lone entrant from Chesham Prep School.
U14 BASS Slalom, the even took place on the Grand Bois race piste, courses set by Stephen Du Plesis (50/48 gates), Emily Evans (50/49 gates), Rob Bullen (53/52 gates) and Phil Brown (49/48 gates). The girls started the competition on Emily Evans and Rob Bullen’s courses, weather sunny and warm, the snow conditions reported as firm. Each run was seeded separately but the awards were based on combined times. Marie Curtis and Yasmin Cooper acted as forerunners for all 4 courses. Unfortunately our only member competing for Parkstone Grammar, Ellie Orchard dnf. The boys took to the snow on Stephen Du Plessis and Phil Brown’s courses. Results were based on the same criteria as the girls. 3 Hemel members took part and all finished within the top 20. Justin REID after a disappointing GS finished 11th, very closely followed by Charlie HUMPHREYS in 12th. Dominic BARTON was 6.00s behind in 16th.
U16/U18/U21 GS, The U16 opened the event on courses set by Milan Stevens from the Chez Republic and Thomas Baldwin. The race started at 0930 with a temperature of +4c, the snow initially assessed as firm but softening. Alice McLEISH finish both runs successfully and was placed 14th. The U18/U21 girls competed on the same course, no Hemel members took part. The U16 boys took to the same courses as the girls. Morgan DAVIES was the highest placed Hemel member finishing in 11th position. James McLEISH, Ed CLARKE and Richard TREW finished21st, 22nd and 24 respectively. Hemel had no members competing in the U18/21 event.
