Following his selection, Seb joined the GBR Ski Cross team in Falls Creek, Australia for a training camp and an ANC Ski Cross race where he achieved his first top 10 finish. With confidence high across the whole squad, they moved to Cardrona, NZ for the Junior Freestyle World Championships. With cold, but sunny conditions, the fast and tight course proved challenging with many crashes as racers searched for the tightest racing lines. With practice days complete, Seb set the 15th fastest time in Qualifiers and went through to the Finals, as did all the GBR athletes, who are benefiting from the new elite Ski Cross coaching structure put in place recently by the British Ski and Snowboard Association. On the day of the Finals, Seb was drawn in the last heat against much higher ranked Ski Cross racers. A missed pole push out of the start gate and a problem on the drop of the first table jump put Seb in 4th place. A disappointing start, but in Ski Cross, there are always opportunities to overtake racers. Seb grabbed his chance when a racer from America made a big mistake on one of the turns half way down the course, allowing Seb to make a clean overtaking manoeuvre on the inside. Seb defended his position well and eventually finished 3rd, knocked out of the event but finishing overall 12th. Considering Seb only started International Ski Cross racing in January, this was a fantastic result and a big confidence booster for the coming European season.
