Hemel Members have great start to the season in club nationals

Hemel members have a great start to the season with a number of podium positions at club national races! On Saturday – Sunday 26-27th April, a number of Hemel members headed to Manchester to compete in the first club national races of the season. A few of them found the transition from FIS racing to artificial some getting used to, but the transition didn’t take long judging by some of the results! On Saturday in the ladies event, Charlotte Tapsell was placed 10th in the hotly contested under 14 age group and Ali Wang was 1st in the masters. In the male event, Matt Thompson proved he’s not just a good coach but can race extremely well too and came 1st in the seniors and also 1st overall male. Rob Trebilcock wasn’t far behind with 2nd place in the seniors, Toby Case came 3rd in the under 14s with Charlie Humphreys also putting in some good runs coming 11th, Tom Grant came 3rd in the under 21’s. Not to be outdone by the youngsters, John Norris was placed 3rd in the masters with Matt Wang not too far behind in 5th. On Sunday, some more great results were displayed with Charlotte Tapsell just missing out on a top 10 overall spot (coming 11th), and Ali Wang coming 1st in the masters ladies. Matt Thompson again dominated the male field and won the overall male title, Tom Grant was placed 3rd in the under 21s. In the male masters, John Norris put in some storming runs to take 2nd place and Matt Wang came 3rd with a really good lead over 4th & 5th positions. Overall, it was a great start to the season. The races were well run and courses were not too technical so would be suitable for all Hemel members to compete in, so we hope that we see some more racers at future club nationals! For now, it’s time to prepare for The BASS races at Landgraaf. Look forward to seeing many of you there!
