This weekend saw two major outdoor races at Pontypool. The Welsh Championships on Saturday followed by the British Outdoor. A few Hemel members took part in both events.

At the Welsh Championships the courses were set by Simon Bannister from ASR and Robin Kellen of SSW. On the long welsh slope Simon set 21 gates and Robin 22. In the Ladies event our only competitor was Charlotte TAPSELL, 7th overall but 1st in the U14 group. In the men’s event on the same two courses Oliver WELLS was 12th overall and just missed out on the podium finishing in 4th. Harry BOTY was 5th U18, closely followed by Toby CASE, 6th in the U14’s. Charley HUMPHREYS was 11th U14. In the Girls event Nia BOTY was 3rd U12.

On Sunday was the British Championships, courses for this event were set by Richard Lambden from, GLO (22 gates) and again Robin Kellen 23 gates, 22 turns). Charlotte TAPSELL, despite loosing a ski out of the gate in Run 1 managed to pull it back and finish 3rd in the girls U14’s. Nicole Shering, lying 4th after Run 1 failed to finish Run 2. In the Mens event Toby CASE was 3rd U14, 21st overall. Harry BOTY finished 27th overall and 6th U18. Charley HUMPHREYS was 9th U!$ closely followed by Alex TRUST in 10th. Nia BOTY again finished 3rd in the U12’s.
