Races 17 & 18 May – ERSA Norfolk SL and GBR Outdoor 2 & 3.

NorslopeThis weekend saw two very different races take place, one on the East and one on the West of the UK. At Norfolk, ERSA held their 3rd Summer League event with 170 entries, on the east in Wales, at Pontypool was the GBR races 2 & 3 with 72 entries. 20+ members made the trek to Norwich. Glorious weather with temperatures of 24c. The Norfolk course consisted of 16 gates and was set by Hemel Head Coach John Reidy. The summer league this year follows the CN format for the U14+ and the U12’s race the stubby course, the best two runs aggregated to find the award winners. In the U8 girls Holly TUTT again gained top spot and was placed 1st, the other Holly, Holly ARLOTT was placed 5th in the U10’s. In the U10 boys Oscar LOUTH finished the competitionin 9th place. The U12 girls saw Nia BOTY continue her good form being placed 2nd, Emma TRUST was only just of the podium in 5th. Lexie PETERSON was place 8th. Thomas REIDY finished 3rd in the boys U12 event, he was up against stiff competition in the form of Norfolk skiers Tommy Dade and Joseph Thompson.

The U14 girls event put Charlotte TAPSELL continuing her winning ways and finished 1st. Triplet, Lily HAWKINS finished 5th and Zara HAWKINS 10th. Luck was not with Danielle HAWKINS and she finished 13th. In the U14 boys Byron APPLETON had 3 good runs and finished in 3rd place. Sebastian ROUTLEDGE finished 10th. Nicole SHERING came up trumps, she had 3 very good runs and finished top of the podium in 1st position in the girls U16’s, Charlotte BLYTH finished 9th. Big thanks to Charlotte for helping with course inspection for the younger less experienced racers. Carys Boty had a “bad” day and dnf all three runs. Amy Peterson after a good first run lying in 3rd places dnf run 3 and was therefore not placed. Harry BOTY, in a tough U18 category finished 3rd. Stuart GREEN, in the SM1 category finished 5th. After the individual events, the team events, stampede event and the Evolution Top 32 events were held, some really exciting head to head racing with Norfolk taking all the honours. A good fun days racing in wonderful weather and still on the road by 1500h. well done Norfolk and ERSA for anther good event.

Pontypool is now mothballed for most of the year and opens up occasionally for the events held there, a good long slope; maybe the most testing on the circuit saw a poor turnout of 72 racers. Hemel had two of those racers. In Race 2, New member Olly WELLS finished 3rd in the U21 men’s event and was placed 9th overall. Toby CASE, having moved up from dominating the U12 category last year finished 1st in the U14.

NORFOLK ERSA SUMMER LEAGUE

Over on the West side of the country at Pontypool saw the GBR races 2 & 3 take place. Pontypool is now mothballed for most of the year and opens up occasionally for the events held there, a good long slope; maybe the most testing on the circuit saw a poor turnout of 72 racers. Hemel had two of those racers. In Race 2, New member Olly WELLS finished 3rd in the U21 men’s event and was placed 9th overall. Toby CASE, having moved up from dominating the U12 category last year finished 1st in the U14. Day 2 at the Pontypoll race (GBR 3) saw another glourious day with temperatures in the low 20’s. Richard Lambden and Robin Kellin set the courses, Richards straighter and faster with 19 gates and Robins more turney with 21 gates. This is reflected in the time differences between the runs. Hemel had two members taking part, Oliver WELLS finished 2nd U21 and 8th overall.Toby CASE in the U14 boys evebnt finished 2nd.
