Over the weekend of the 19 and 20 July, events took place in which Hemel Members competed. These varied from the ERSA Summer League to the BIGP (British Indoor Grand Prix) with the Snowsport South Summer League and the Snowsport South Club National, the last CN of the summer season.
On the Sunday, 21 Hemel members congregated up at Tallington Lakes, near Peterborough, for the 7th in the Summer League Series. Weather was hot and sunny with heavy rain expected later in the day. With a small field and efficient organisation the race was finished before the heavens opened. The event consisted of three runs in the individual slalom. This was followed by the Team events, the Stampede Event, the TOP 32 and the added bonus of the TOP 16 for the U12/10. A very full days racing and at an entry fee cost of £10.00 great value.
After some mat repairs the day started in the normal format for this years summer series. The course was set by Alex Reidy, 10 gates with 10 turns. The U14 girls/ladies started the event with Charlotte TAPSELL finishing 4th overall and 1st in the U14 age group. In the same group saw Eleanor SCRANAGE HARRISON finish 3rd followed very closely by Danielle HAWKINS in 4th and sisters, Lily HAWKINS and Zara HAWKINS finish in 6th and 7th respectively. Byron Appleton was leading in the U16 boys competition after R1 and R2 but dsq R3 so was not placed. The U16 girls saw Hemel members, Carys BOTY finish in 1st place with Elise SNOW in 3rd. Emily DEAN and Bea BARDER finished 0.04s apart in 6th and 7th. William NEWTON in the boys U16, after 3 consistent runs, finished 7th.
The U08/10/12 event through the stubby course saw once again Holly TUTT finish 1st in the U08, this was her 7th win. Oscar LOUTH, in the U10 boys finished 5th. Holly ARLOTT was 4th in the U10 girls. In the strongly contested U12 girls, Nia BOTY finished in 1st place, Katie BARDER 4th and Sophie GIBSON 6th. The last run of the day in the individual events was the U12 boys; Charlie NEWTON was on the podium in 3rd place with Thomas REIDY just missing out in 4th.
Races during the weekend were also held by Snowsport South at the Southampton Slope. On Saturday was their Summer Series race and Sunday the Club National. Results for Saturday can be found on the Snowsport South web site. In the CN ,ocal racer, Emma TRUST finished 1st in the Girls U12 race, Lexie Peterson was 4th. Daniel HUTCHINGS in the U10 boys was 2nd. An entry of 24 for the Girls/Ladies competition saw Nicole SHERING finish 2nd overall and first in the U16 group. Amy PETERSON was 6th in the same group. Ellie ORCHARD dnf R1 but put in two good runs to finish 5th in the U14’s. Three members competed in the boys/mens event. Oliver WELLS in a very strong U21 age group was placed just of the podium in 4th place. Toby CASE 0.05s behind Oliver overall, finished 2nd in the U14’s. Alex TRUST was 8th in the U16 age group.
This weekend saw two BIGP races at Castleford,; formally known as the “Grahame Beck” series these have now been amalgamated into the GBR series and as such are seeded events. A number of our members travelled up to Leeds to take part in either or both of the races. BIGP 3 took place on Saturday. We had no competitors in the U12 event. In the main female competition Hemel had 3 members compete through courses set by Grahame BECK, 17 gates with 15 turns and Toby Fischel, 16 gates and 16 turns. Charlotte TAPSELL continued her good form by finishing 2nd in the U14 age group, 6th overall. One of our mature racers, Judy REID was the fastest MAS in 1st place, 12 overall. Very close behind her was Anna CALDWELL in 13th. In the boys/men race, our Junior Trainer, Dan POTH proved you can teach and do by finishing top of the field in 1st place. In 2nd place was Robert TREBILCOCK, 1st SEN. Joshua KEENE was 4th overall and 3rd in the U21’s.. Finley DAVIS was 2nd U16, 7th overall. Patrick CALDWELL finished 7th in the U16 and MAS racer, John NORRIS, was 2nd in the group. On Sunday whilst some of the club were in the great outdoors at Tallington others competed in BIGP 4 at Leeds. The courses were set by Toby Fishell. No entries from Hemel in the U12’s. In the very low entrygirls/ladies race Anna CALDWELL was 5th in the U14’s, 9th overall. Judy REID, our only other female competitor was placed 13th overall and 1st MAS. In the boys/mens event Robert TREBILCOCK went one better than the day before finishing 1st overall. Daniel POTH, Finley DAVIS and Josh KEENE finished 4th, 5th and 6th. Patrick CALDWELL was 13th overall, John NORRIS 20th.
