Races 23 & 24 August, Scottish Outdoor Championships.
Whilst most are enjoying the Summer break some members are still competing in the few races held in August. This weekend sees the outdoor Scottish Championships being held at Hillend. The longest artificial slope in the country at 300m saw a good turn out of racers, the majority from Scotland. A very good turn out from the U12’s with 35 racers taking part, unusual for a national event but U08 were allowed to enter. The courses were set by Tony Kuwall (28 gates, 27 turns) and Mark Vinter (31 gates and 29 turns). The race was of championship format with two runs, aggregated to find the award winners. As all championship races the race penalty minimum could be 0.00. As it was the penalty was much higher. One Hemel member made the long journey up north to compete. In the ladies event, Cameron MANSON had a good slalom and finished 3rd overall placing her 1st in the U18 age group. The race was dominated by Scottish racer , Nicole Ritchie finishing nearly 3 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
No entries from Hemel in the men’s event that again was controlled by Callum Henderson finishing 1.14s ahead of the rest.
Next week sees the All England Ski Championships at Norfolk. Still time to enter, race closes on Wednesday @ 1900h.
