Races 25 October – Mendip Excel Race

Avon ExcelMendip Excel Event

The first National Seeded Race was held at the Mendip Snowsports Centre on Saturday 25 September. The Mendip Snowsports Centre is Located on the edge of the Mendip Hills, just off the A38, half way between Weston-super-Mare and Bristol The slope is 165 m long with turns and a steep finish. This format of this relatively new type of event includes 3 runs down one course with the fastest time to count, and is designed to serve the purpose of providing local development entry level race opportunities. Excel Events are organized to give developing racers increased opportunities to compete in entry level competitions. Entry priority was given to registered racers with highest (most) seed points. Excel Events results will be sent to the national seeder to qualify for seeding. The event will be run under the supervision of an appointed British Technical Delegate. Only competitors with more than 40 BARTS points were allowed to enter the race. However those with better than 40 points could compete but were not included for seeding purposes. The course, consisting of 15 gates, was set by Stuart Robertson. The U12 raced through the stubbies and U14+ through the full gates. Hemel had the Hawkins Triplets taking part. Reports say, even though a very low entry, this was a well organised, good fun event with a very interesting and technical course being set on a slope described as “different”. Zara HAWKINS beat her two siblings finishing in 2nd place overall, there were no age group categories, Danielle and Lilly finishing 4th and 5th respectively. The Avon club intend to hold a National Club Event there in the Summer of next year, maybe a good event to try out.
