The weekend of the 27 and 28 June saw races being held up on the moors at Pendle and down in the Fens at Ipswich. On Saturday was the Pendle Club National whilst on Sunday was the Inter Regional at Pendle. Only 3 regions entered, 2 from the North and only 1 from the South, 7 teams in all. ERSA this year did not enter a team as it was found difficult to persuade the regions members to travel up North.
However on Sunday 180+ members of the region attended the last of the Summer League Races held at Ipswich. Always ensured of a good welcome, cake stall and bbq up and running from an early start. Ice Cream van tuned up later. Unfortunately the weather was not at its best but the rain held of for most of the day. Only a brief interlude during the team events where it drizzled but still very warm and sticky.
Fourteen Hemel members made the trip up to East Anglia, 5 in the U12 age groups and 9 in the older group. The course consisting of 17 gates was set by Foo Troung and Alex Reidy. A good fast flowing but challenging course. Results in the U12 age group and below are based on the aggregate of the best two runs .Ten racers from Hemel took part in the U08 age group which had 62 entries, good to see that “Mini” acing is thriving in the Eastern Region. There were no entris from Hemel in the U08. In the U10 girls Olivia HOWESON, in her first racing year finished 2nd chased by Holly TUTT in 3rd.

In the main event racing through the full gates set on the same course as the stubbies for the U12. In the U14 Girls Harriet WARMINGTON finished a credible 2nd place putting her in good stead for being awarded the overall SL U14 Champion. Relative new member, Ellie FARROW had 3 consistent runs finished 10th in a tough field just under 4s slower than the winner. A good result considering the length of the slope

Byron APPLETON in the U16 boys continued hi good run finishing in 2nd place behind local racer Aron Troung, it was always going to be difficult considering home advantage but he held his own and finished 0.23s behind Aron. Charlie Newton also pushed hard and finished just of the podium in 4th.

Our final contingent was in the Masters 2/3 category. Tony SHARP finished in 3rd, Olly TURNER, who really only comes to help ERSA and bring his son finished a good 9th position. Stephen BRADLEY finished 13th, he does want the region to give all the others a penalty as he only trains snow really.

Congratulations to all those that raced under the Hemel Banner. The winner of the day was Robert Trebilcock, now of the Vikings. He has 60 FIS points so the argument that you cannot race snow and plastic is blown away.
