During the week of the Children’s GBR Championships the older members were competing in the Senior Courchevel Ecosse FIS Races. All races took place on the Stade E Allais piste in Courchevel, France. Hemel had a number of members taking part in these events.
DAY 1, the competition was started on the first day with the Ladies Slalom and the Mens GS. The weather was assessed as “Beau” and the snow as “Dure”. Beautiful and Hard. The courses was set by the GBR trainer, Marc Telling and French trainer Mickael Cornu. Both courses were very similar with 56/54 and 57/55 gates. Amber BUCKLAND, consistent as always, very rarely does not finished was placed 18th and Masters Racer, Aveline DEIGHTON was 20th. Marie Curtis dnf Run 1. The men competed in the GS event, courses set by Swiss trainer Fred Labaune and French trainer Yan Abramowicz. Both courses had 44 gates with 41 turning. Kieran NORRIS continued his fine Alpine season and was placed 17th. One of the 29 entries who dnf was Oliver Deighton.
DAY 2, once again the weather was Beau and snow conditions Dure, well at least early in the morning. This day followed the same format of the day before. Ladies Slalom first. Marc Telling set the first course, 55/52 gates and Renato Gasper from Turkey. He set 56/53 gates. The same two Hemel members competed, Amber BUCKLAND was 21st. This time unfortunately Aveline Deighton dnf. The mens GS then place with the snow softening as the temperature was a pleasant +8. The courses were set by the French coach, Alex Fourrat and Russian trainer Ruslan Nachkov. 41/39 and 42/40 gates respectively. The highest place Hemel member was Max BAGGIO in 30 place followed by Kieran NORRIS in 36th. Oliver Deighton dnf Run 2 and Robert Poth dnf Run 1.
Day 3, today the roles were reversed with the ladies trying their skills on the GS course with the men taking the Slalom. The course setters for the GS were Marc Telling and Renato Gasper of Turkey, both courses set with 36/34 gates. The results saw Rachel ROGERS finish 12th, Amber BUCKLAND 28th and Aveline DEIGHTON 33rd. The mens slalom competition followed, Kieran NORRIS, again a good result was 8th from a start of 34. Max BAGGIO 14th and Oliver DEIGHTON 36th. Robert Poth dnf Run 1 so was not placed.
DAY 4, the final day of the competitions saw the same format as the day before, Ladies GS and Mens Slalom. Once again Marc set the 1st GS course, 36/34 gates. Second course set by Turkish trainer, Renato Gasper. 37/35 gates. Beautiful weather, temperature +7. The ladies saw Amber BUCKLAND finish 17th with Marie CURTIS very close behind in 18th. Rachel Rogers, lying 7th after Run 1 dnf Run 2. The final event was the mens slalom, 78 entries. Courses were set by Alex Fourrat and Russian trainer Ruslan Nachkov. 51 racers out of a start of 78 dnf, this included the two Hemel members, Max Baggio and Kieran Norris.
