Anglo – Welsh Championships. 23rd April 2011
British Indoor Championships. 24th April 2011
The Hemel Ski race club began the 2011 Summer ski race season on a high over the Easter weekend with many race club members posting impressive, outstanding results.
Eighteen race club members made the journey north to Chill Factore which is the Manchester indoor ski centre to compete at the Anglo – Welsh Championships and the British Indoor Championships which opened the 2011 Summer race calendar.
On Saturday, the Anglo – Welsh Championships took place and Hemel had 4 podium finishes and 5 racers in the top 15 Men’s Slalom results.
Robert Poth comfortably won the CH2 age group placing him in a creditable 5th place overall with brother Daniel Poth 2nd JN1, Elliot Simpson 2nd SEN and Matthew Thompson winning the JN2 age category as well as bagging the overall title! Fantastic!!
Other racers results were James Grant 4th JN2, Thomas Grant 5th JN1, Keiran Norris 6th JN1, Joshua Penning –Lambert 6th CH2, Matthew Penning – Lambert 12th JN1,John Norris 4th MAS, Chris Pickering 17th JN1, Dominic Daley 6th CH1, Toby Deighton 7th CH1, Harry Deighton 8th CH1 and Oliver Deighton 16th CH2. Unfortunately, Gerard Flahive, Niall Flahive and Caroline Powell did not finish the race.


The British Indoor Championships
On Sunday, the racers returned for the British Indoor Championships and again, we saw Hemel take 4 podium positions. Caroline Powell 2nd JN2, Daniel Poth 3rd JN1, Matthew Thompson 2nd JN2 and Robert Poth taking the CH2 title making a double win over the weekend.
James Grant and John Norris kept their consistent 4th Place in JN2 and MAS respectively as did Joshua Penning – Lambert 6th CH2. Other racers managed to improve their finishing positions from the race the day before notably Dominic Daley 5th CH1, Matthew Penning – Lambert 11th JN1, Toby Deighton 6th CH1, Oliver Deighton 13th CH2 and Nial Flahive 9th JN2. Unfortunately, Gerard Flahive did not finish.
