Junior Race Development Group

Starting at the end March, the younger and less experienced members of the Club have made Saturday afternoons at Gosling Ski Centre, Welwyn (GSC) their own. Although the slope is open to all comers (including a few parents) they usually make up the majority. Paul Fraylich now has a regular group of between 6 and 10 skiers. About 20 in total have expressed an interest so far; if you would like to add your details then please contact us.

As previously, the sessions run from 2.30 to 4.00pm and cost £12 for members; all equipment can be provided.

As these sessions are being organised by the Club, it is necessary to pay a representative before starting the session (usually this is Nick Warmington). They in turn will pay GSC under the agreement the Club have with them.
Plans for the Group include the development of skills, safety awareness and any early appreciation of ski racing technique; above all though the sessions continue to be fun! They also act as the feeder into the Club’s regular Monday evening training sessions. Please be aware however that this progression is limited by age (minimum of 7 years) and by ability / maturity. Progression is by invitation only, based on the assessment of the training team.

In two months the group have experienced every type of weather and slope condition. They have developed all the usual responses; it’s too hot, the slope’s way too slow; I need different wax; who set that course!

Many of the group have now experienced their first taste of racing either at the “last race” or at the first ERSA Summer league race in late April; the majority are hoping to take part in the next race in Mid June. They have had great success already walking off with two first places and a host of impressive debut results.
