Hemel Ski Race Club was formed over 30 years ago and has over 300+ members, male and female, most of which are below the age of 21. Not all members are racing members but have joined to give their help and support to the club. Training for the younger members (U12 and younger) takes place between 6.00pm and 7.30pm on a Monday night, and for the older groups (U14 and older) between 7.00pm and 9.00pm also on a Monday night. The later sessions are for the more serious/competent racer, there is also a session at this time aimed at the older, the not so serious racers or those that might like to improve their performance incorporated with race techniques, please remember to book online, numbers are limited. We can only accept those who have pre booked.
For all groups we will have full use of the main slope for drills, course setting and pole training. HSRC will have sole use of the main slope for the 6:00pm to 9:00pm session. When arriving at the Snow Centre, for health and safety requirements please see a member of the committee to book in.
HSRC do have a minimum age and ability criteria for all sessions. We do not teach beginners or people to ski. Our general aims are to have fun, promote skilful and safe skiing, to train, develop and help established racers and to introduce novices to the sport of ski racing.
-
The ages of the skiers range from 7 to 70+.
-
All ages and standards are catered for.
-
All our Race Trainers, Coaches and Instructors and many of the race committee are DBS checked under the regulations of the Child Protection Policy and hold first aid qualifications.
Race training is not for everyone and before joining the club we invite you down for a taster/trial, this is for two reasons, firstly to see if you enjoy it and secondly to assess your ability and ensure we get you into the most suitable and correct training group. Taster/Trials will be held during a Monday training session. A dedicated experienced trainer will asses your ability and ensure you are placed in the correct training group. If not meeting our minimum requirement you will be directed in the way to proceed.
Please remember we are a race club and as such expect members to compete in appropriate level events. We do take part in events of various standards on “Indoor Snow”, “Alpine Snow” and “Artificial Slopes” throughout the year.
