The Summer Race season kicked of on the weekend of the 19 April with races held up and down the country. Our region, ERSA, held their first Summer League Race at Welwyn. Hemel had a really good entry of 53 racers which we can hopefully keep up during the season. The full results can be found at http://www.ersa.co.uk/2015_races
A very big thanks to all that supported the club either competing or helping the region run the race. A lot of work goes on in the background of all events and the more the tasks can be shared the easier and more efficient it becomes.
The weather was fair but with a chilly wind, however the atmosphere was buzzing for this first event. The U12s and younger raced through the stubby course set by Alex Reidy whereas the U14 and older raced the full poles. Th course set by our head coach, Jon Reidy. Both set courses consisting of 13 gates, a good challenging but straight forward course for the first race.
The event started with the U14+ racing the full poles. A few of the club members moving up from the U12s competed in the big boys and girls league. The results were based on the Club National format with the best of Run 1 and Run 2 added to Run 3 to find the overall award winners.
As is normal the U14 girls/ladies took to Jons course first, good result for Eleanor coming 1st, Nia and Katie, moving up from the U12 had good runs finishing 3rd and 4th respectively.

In the U16 girls Hemel had a very good show with Nicole coming 1st, later on during the day Nicole had a bad all and at first it was believed she had damaged her shoulder. The ambulance was called and Nicole was taken to hospital. Good news was that she had dislocated her shoulder but this had popped back in by itself and she has soft tissue damage. A few weeks out and then back to her best. She was a very brave young lady who showed real character and strength whilst we moved her of the slope to the waiting paramedics. Charlotte, after spending most of the winter on snow got back to the artificial with 3 consistent runs. Danielle, Zara and Lilly, after sorting out their bibs, I think, had 3 good runs with Danielle coming out on top.
